The New York Yankees are announcing that all-star third baseman, Alex Rodriguez is set to have surgery on his left hip and is expected to be out four to six months.
Rodriguez has a torn labrum, bone impingement and a cyst. He will need four to six weeks of physical therapy to strengthen the hip before surgery In January, according to the New York Times.
The Yankees are hoping that their high- priced star shows some renewed signs of life after the surgery. A-Rod has five years remaining in a $275 million dollar contract.
“Alex is signed, obviously, going forward for five years, so we will have to withstand if there’s times down like this — the first three months of this year, which is the expectation,” Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman said. “We’ll have to find ways to withstand it. One player doesn’t make a team, and so we have a full roster of guys plus our farm system behind that that’s going to have to fill in.”
Rodriguez is coming off a less than stellar year post-season and is looking to rebound from an injury that he believes drastically affected his performance. This will be a make or break season for Rodriguez who is not getting any younger.
Rodriguez’s return is anticipated to coincide with the All-Star game.
“I think once he’s fixed, you’ll certainly see a return to a player that’s more than capable, and above average at that position.” Cashman stated.
Let’s hope the coincidence is a sign of things to come………
