Adrian Peterson’s son in critical condition from alleged abuse

A two year-old boy, now confirmed to be the son of Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson,is in critical condition in a Sioux Falls, SD hospital after alleged abuse by a caretaker.

Joseph Robert Patterson, 27, has been charged with aggravated assault and aggravated assault on an infant in Lincoln County for harming a 2-year-old boy who was in his care. The boy and his mother live with Patterson. Patterson called 911 to report a choking. After first responders arrived, they realized that the incident was not an accident. According to USA Today Sports:

“As officers and first responders got there, they found child was unresponsive and he was taken to the hospital,” Sioux Falls police spokesman Sam Clemens told USA TODAY Sports on Friday. “So they ended up calling police about that or letting them know. We had detectives talk to quite a few people to try to figure out what happened. What they ended up finding was that when the injuries happened there was one person with that child, and that person was Joseph Patterson.”

“The injuries they found were head injuries,” Clemens said.

Police believe the boy’s mother was gone for a short time which is when they believe the abuse occurred.

Police records show that Patterson has a history of domestic violence and abuse including former girlfriend’s and children. He is set to appear in court today.

I have a few concerns. First, why is the mother living with someone who is obviously not capable of caring for a child. Also, I have concerns about  her ability to care for the child. Perhaps this is a good time for Peterson to get custody.

Adrian Peterson has not released any statements or made any official comments. I hope the boy fully recovers.
