Byron Scott is a former NBA player for the Lakers and the former head coach of the Nets, Hornets and the Cavaliers. Rumor has it he wants to add the L.A. Lakers to his resume. With Mike D’Antoni resigning, all eyes are on the Lakers and who will take the reigns to help bring the team back to their former glory.

Although no timetable has been established, the search for a replacement will begin immediately.

Scott may be what the Lakers need. He knows and understands their “system” something that D’Antoni apparently didn’t “get” as head coach. Scott, also a former Lakers player himself, understand the team’s dynamic. Though he’s butted heads with Kobe Bryant in the past, Scott is tough and can bring a good defensive strategy. Scott also has the ability to use players in positions they’re best suited for their talents and skills, and let’s face it – the Lakers need talent.

Other names being tossed around as possibilities for head coach are Steve Kerr, Lionel Hollins and European coach Ettore Messina.

The Lakers definitely need to rebuild. The head coach seems to be start.

Who do you think should be the next head coach?
