Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones all but confirmed they were going to stick with scrutinized quarterback Tony Romo and it seems it was true. The Cowboys reached a deal with Romo- a six-year extension worth $108 million, with $55 million guaranteed. His signing bonus is worth $25 million.
The question is whether Romo can deliver a Super Bowl. It seems the team thinks so:
“Absolutely, we feel that we can win a championship with Tony,” Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones told USA TODAY Sports.
Alot of people were surprised including former quarterback Donovan McNabb who tweeted:
Tony Romo 6 yr 55 million dollar extension. Wow really, with one playoff win. You got to be kidding me
I‘m sure McNabb is not alone in his sentiments. Romo is going into his 11th season and has only one playoff win. He’s known for consistently choking during critical moments. Jerry Jones admits Romo has alot of work to do, but says he’s not the problem entirely:
“It’s not all on Tony’s shoulders,” Jones said. “He has to do his part, but the team around him as to play better, and we also have to coach better.”
I’ll agree with that, but with $108 million Romo needs to bring a Super Bowl.
