Well, we saw this coming. After his ridiculous rant on CNN with Chris Cuomo and then his later admission that he had been drinking, notorious ex-NBA baller Dennis Rodman has checked himself into rehab for alcoholism.
Rodman’s manager Darren Prince said the trip to North Korea proved to be detrimental to Rodman’s mental state:
“What was potentially a historic and monumental event turned into a nightmare for everyone concerned,” Prince said. “Dennis Rodman came back from North Korea in pretty rough shape emotionally. The pressure that was put on him to be a combination ‘super human’ political figure and ‘fixer’ got the better of him.
Prince would not say where Rodman is or how long he will be there, but it’s clear he needs it.
“He is embarrassed, saddened and remorseful for the anger and hurt his words have caused.”
Rodman organized a group of retired NBA players to participate in an exhibition game as a part of the birthday celebration for North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Rodman claims to have a friendship with Kim and critics were upset that Rodman didn’t use his influence to help imprisoned American Kenneth Bae, a missionary with health problems who is being held in North Korea on charges of “anti-state” crimes.
I don’t quite understand that. Who in their right mind would expect Dennis Rodman to get involved in political matters? Really? In any case, his manager says people seem to forget who Dennis Rodman is.
“People forget Dennis is just an entertainer and retired NBA star,” Prince said. “The fact remains that a basketball game was played in North Korea live in front of 14,000 people and hundreds of millions around the world viewed clips of the game.”
Prince has a point, but I think he needs to share that point with his client. If Dennis Rodman insists on going to North Korea for exhibition games, he should remember that he is in fact ONLY an entertainer, so please just entertain and leave the public statements alone.
I hope Rodman finally gets help for alcoholism.
