After months, and months, and months of waiting, late last night it was announced that Orlando Magic’s Dwight Howard might finally have a new home. According sources close to the situation, a four-team trade that would send Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers is complete.
Yes it took four teams to get Dwight to the ‘City of Angels’. Here’s the trade…the Lakers will receive Howard, Earl Clark and Chris Duhon,, the Denver Nuggets will acquire Andre Iguodala, the 76ers will receive Andrew Bynum and Jason Richardson, and the Magic will get Arron Afflalo, Al Harrington, Nikola Vucevic and one protected future first-round pick from each of the three teams.
But is Dwight Howard really worth all of this back and forth?
Who really knows? Howard is an exceptional player, and the NBA were nothing but excited when Howard was drafted to the Magic but the constant whining and public rants about the Orlando Magic’s head coach and other personnel decisions make many skeptical of the player’s overall talent on the court and actual real ability to assist any team winning a championship.
Now if for some reason the trade falls apart, it’s said that the Dallas Mavericks are waiting in the wings to pick up Howard.
A source close to the Lakers’ superstar Kobe Bryant said that he was ecstatic Thursday night when he heard the news of the trade. As you know Bryant is in London playing for Team USA at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Could this be the missing piece that the Lakers need to get another ring, probably not? Yes, the combining of forces and powers in Miami helped LeBron James win his first ring with Dwade Wade and Chris Bosh, but for the Lakers the team dynamics are totally different.
At the end of the day, it seems Howard has a new home and let’s hope he’s finally pleased and can get back to doing what he should have been doing all along – working on his game.
