We knew the new Air Jordans would cause a frenzy among lovers and collectors of the brand, but VIOLENCE?! Really people?
People all over the country, from Washington D.C., to Atlanta, to Kentucky, and California have been waiting in lines for hours–some for days to get the coveted shoe.
There have been reports of pepper spraying at a mall in Washington, fights in Kentucky and in North Carolina, dozens of police officers were called to restore order at Carolina Place Mall in Pineville after fights erupted. The unrest started just after 5 a.m. as a crowd of about 200 that had been waiting pushed inside. In Humble, TX police were also called in after a crown rushed in to get the shoes.
(Stepping up on my soapbox) With ALL that’s going on in the economy, in our schools, in our communities and in our country, seeing this display of worthless greed is disgusting. There’s nothing wrong with wanting the latest and greatest item, but some balance in life would be nice.
I wish people were waiting in line like this to vote–or were in a rush to give to charity or breaking down the doors of a school for the PTA meeting. Imagine people waiting in line for days to get into church! Wow!
It’s amazing and how we give power and credence to the things in our life, and it’s sad really.
The most important things in life aren’t things.
