I wish these stories of athletes getting arrested was “news”, but it’s not. Nevertheless, another one bites the dust. Larry Johnson, former running back for the Kansas City Chiefs was arrested Friday at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas for allegedly choking his girlfriend.
According to A.J. Perez on FOXSports.com Johnson and his girfried got into a heated argument which escalated into violence. The alleged victim sustained “multiple facial injuries and bruising on her neck,” according to a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department news release.
“Based on the victim’s injuries and other evidence, Johnson was arrested,” the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said. Fox Sports also reports that Johnson was being held Friday afternoon for the mandatory 12-hour period for such crimes. He will then be able to post the $15,000 bail.
A hearing has been scheduled for Saturday morning.
So often the stories we hear about athletes once their professional career is over often involves some sort of domestic dispute and the police. I wish more of them were prepared for life afte the game and developed the social skills to do so.
If Larry Johnson is not careful, he’s going to end up the subject of another sad documentary on ESPN’s 30 for 30 series.
