After flying around the court with bulging muscles, sweating and oozing sex appeal through their testosterone-filled bodies, NBA's finest make their way to the post-game press conferene dressed more like Harry Potter than Harry Winston. It used to be that wearing thick-rimmed large glasses was avoided because it made you look like a nerd or geek, but now they're embracing it. It seems 'geek chic' is in, and NBA players are going for it, large glasses and all.
When Miami Heat's Dwyane Wade sported his hot pink pants last month, he took alot of heat (no pun intended) from analyst Charles Barkley. (who incidentally wore a pair of red and white zoomba pants back in the day). Wade responded by saying that not all men could carry off this look.
Even Oklahoma City Thunder's Kevin Westbrook is embracing the look, and is even claiming that he started the trend wearing the geek glasses in 2008 as a rookie.
LeBron James disputes Westbrook's claim, though he didn't say precisely who started the trend.
I don't know about this look. I like more of a classic style with a trendy flair, and while this may be cute on some men, I'm hoping it fades quickly. At the end of the day, I won't mind if my guy looks like a geek as long as he's not one.
