Well, the spotlight is on Geno Smith and Jets fans, aka “gang green” expect him to shine. After all the hype and drama around who will be the starting quarterback for the Jets, Geno Smith won the role over the former leading man, Mark Sanchez. The question is, will he meet the expectations?

A story in cbssports.com mentioned Smith commenting that watching tapes on Darrell Revis doesn’t seem to be a priority:

“I mean, I don’t think it’s necessary,” Smith said. “Maybe I will, maybe I won’t. You pretty much get the idea of what kind of player he is based on his reputation.”

WHAT?! His “reputation”? Did he really say that? Now, I’m no football pro, but I would think that what you “hear” about a player is not a good factor in determining how he plays. This is especially true when/if there are tapes available. Even if Smith believed that to be true, he should watch the tapes to confirm it.

My hope is that Geno Smith delivers. He’s doing alot of talking and saying things that speak to the nature of an ego-driven rookie. I think he should humble himself a little and fall in line. I know that he is feeling the pressure to prove his worth, but he should let his playmaking speak for him.

Completed passes speak louder than words.

What do you think?
