"I can answer this question a million ways -- frontward, backward, sideways, anything else," Ryan said late Tuesday in a conference call with reporters. "It's my decision and I based it on a gut feeling or whatever. Everything it comes down to is, I believe it's the best decision for our team. That's the only factor that goes into these decisions."
I agree with Rex Ryan, I just think this decision came a little too late. Sanchez leads the league in turnovers, throwing four interceptions Monday night. The loss to the Tennessee Titans puts the Jets chances of making the playoffs are slim to none, at best. The loss really hurt Jets fans, scarily known as "Gang Green" and one fan went a little too far with death threats to Sanchez on Twitter after Monday's loss.
A horrible game, death threats and then being benched makes for a bad week for Mark Sanchez. And how does he feel? Well, he's hurt:
"It doesn't feel good to hurt your team like that," a demoralized Sanchez said after the game, adding, "I'm not playing well enough for us to win."
Things are bad for Mark Sanchez, but it could be worse. He could be Tim Tebow, a quarterback they passed up. When you're passed up for the third string, it's a clear indication of how much faith they have in your ability to perform.
There's always some good news. The good news is that Sanchez can only get better from here. When you're at your lowest, the only place to go is up.
A little prayer from Tebow may help.
