First it was Manti Te’o and now another person caught up in a huge sports scandal will sit and talk with Katie Couric. On Monday, the interview with Sue Paterno, widow of legendary college football coach Joe Paterno will air on “Katie”.
Joe Paterno was the head coach of the Nittany Lions from 1966 into 2011. He led the team to two national titles and 409 victories– which made him the winningest college football coach in history until the NCAA removed 111 of them as a result of fallout from the Jerry Sandusky scandal in which he was ultimately fired in late 2011. Paterno later died in January 2012 from lung cancer.
Sue Paterno, who was married to Joe Paterno for over fifty years will talk about her marriage to the legendary football coach, the Sandusky scandal that rocked his career and his last moments before his death.
In light of the tragedy of Paterno’s career, he was and still is respected in may circles. It is rare to hear from the widow, especially in cases where the scandal is so dark and played out in the public. Many still feel that Paterno’s role in the scandal was overblown. It will be interesting to hear what Sue has to say.
I wonder if she will speak to or make a statement to the victims.
