According to CBS Sports, the Lakers will retire Shaq’s #34 jersey next season. It was supposed to happen this season, but the NBA lockout created problems and didn’t leave the Lakers enough time to plan a ceremony befitting the man who’s had too many nicknames to count!
“Shaq had a long and amazing career,” Laker’s owner Jerry Buss’ statement read. “A huge impact both on and off the court. His contributions were significant to the entire NBA, but we specifically appreciate what he did with and what he meant to the Lakers during his eight years with us. We have three championships that we wouldn’t have won without him, and we will forever be grateful for his significant contributions to those teams.”
O’Neal was a four time NBA champion, three time NBA finals MVP, NBA MVP, NBA Rookie of the Year, and a 15 time NBA All-Star. Since his NBA career has ended he’s stayed busy in televison, radio including his most recent job as an NBA analyst on the NBA On TNT. He’s been a great addition to the line-up and we expect bigger and better things to come.
What else would you expect from Shaq?
