Lamar Odom and the Dallas Mavericks Go Their Separate Ways
These are the types of headlines that you usually see after the season is over, but the Dallas Mavericks have announced that they are no longer willing to play the games the former L.A. Laker and now former Maverick Lamar Odom want to play.
Sources have reported that Odom will be listed as inactive for the rest of the season instead of the team just outright cutting him. With all of the drama that the Mavs went through with Odom this season they want to be able to get something from him, mostly money.
In a statement o ESPN.com Odom said, “The Mavericks and I have mutually agreed that it’s in the best interest of both parties for me to step away from the team. I’m sorry that things didn’t work out better for both of us, but I wish the Mavs’ organization, my teammates and Dallas fans nothing but continued success in the defense of their championship.”
The spiraling out of control started after the lockout ended, when the Lakers wanted to trade Odom but he didn’t want to go. When Odom finally was traded to the Mavs he showed up not in shape and with a horrible attitude to boot. Last month Odom was demoted to the Dallas developmental team to get his act together, which should have been the writing on the wall, but it wasn’t.
The basketball player gone reality star after marrying Khloe Kardashian has lost his mind. All Lamar knows is basketball, so why is he throwing it all away because he’s not a Laker anymore. The faux-celebrity of being a part of the Kardashian clan has gone to his head. Hopefully this time of not playing will allow him to reevaluate what is important, which is basketball.
