"I've said enough about the Lakers," Cuban said with a grin while working out on an elliptical machine. "Let's just say that when you say something bad about the Lakers, you get a ton of Twitter threats, so it's just not worth it. There is just more Twitter courage in Southern California than probably any other part of the world."
Later, Cuban added: "I'm not suggesting it's all Lakers fans. It's just most."
Wow! That's a bit strong, don't you think? Well.....hmmm....
There's no doubt that the Lakers are a VERY popular team. This team's past successes have garnered a strong committed fanbase, much like the Pittsburgh Steelers or New York Yankees. But are the fans dangerous? Well....hmmm....
I don't know if they're dangerous, but they're definitely some of the most "spirited" in the NBA. I see the Facebook posts ALL the time from Lakers fans who can be a bit fanatical--but aren't we all at times? Certainly death threats or any threat of violence for someone who doesn't like the Lakers is unwarranted and unacceptable, but taking a little criticiscm and name calling is par for the course.
Mark Cuban is probaby doing the right thing. Sometime it's best to say nothing, but he wouldn't be Mark Cuban if he didn't leave a little quip:
"I don't know, I don't care, I just hope they suck. You know, like any other team."
So there it is.
