You would think with all of the drama that Michael Vick went through with dogs and dog fighting he would be staying far, far, far away from man’s best friend, but that’s not the case.
After questions and rumors about Vick and his family owning a dog, the Philly QB finally released a statement confirming that he and his family do in fact own a dog.
"I understand the strong emotions by some people about our family's decision to care for a pet. As a father, it is important to make sure my children develop a healthy relationship with animals," Vick said in the statement released by his publicist.
"I want to ensure that my children establish a loving bond and treat all of God’s creatures with kindness and respect. Our pet is well cared for and loved as a member of our family. This is an opportunity to break the cycle. To that end, I will continue to honor my commitment to animal welfare and be an instrument of positive change," he added.
For whatever reason people are still sounding off about this issue and have huge reservations about Vick owning a dog. I honestly believe that he has served his time, learned his lesson and moved on; isn't that what we are taught?. Part of the terms of Vick’s probation was that he wasn’t allowed to own a dog. That probation ended in July. The statement doesn’t get into what type of dog his children have but I know it’s not a pit bull.
