Michael Vick tweeted that his autobiography Finally Free: The Power of A Second Chance has been released today. Vick says that this book is for all his fans and and gets to the heart of the matter about how he spiraled out of control under the glare of money and fame.
Michael dives deep into every aspect of his life, including family, faith and football. He shares never-before-told details about his youth, career, conviction, imprisonment and his return to the NFL.
But the book is also about redemption. The subtitle speaks to Vick’s second chance and how he changed his life. The forward, written by famed, Super Bowl winning coach and mentor, Tony Dungy is sure to appeal to all those who fell from grace. Speaking about the book Dungy said, “It’s not pretty, but it’s real. If you’re like me – if you’ve ever done something in your life you wish you could take back, it will encourage you to learn that we serve a God of second chances and live in a country of second chances.”
Amen to that Tony Dungy!
I think this book should be a requirement for all NFL rookies. With the change of athletes being treated more like celebrities than sports figures, we are guaranteed to see more players fall from grace, some who may not get that second chance in the same way as Michael Vick.
Vick, in all accounts is a great American story. Not just for football, though. All of us in some way have had a second chance. Vick says his renewed relationship with God was the key that unlocked his cell door.
It’s a Master key we all need.
