My Sister’s Keeper: U.S. Olympic biathlon contender gives up spot on team for twin sister
Jersey Girl Sports fam, this is just an amazing story! True sacrifice and love shows up not in what you say, but in what you do, and Olympic athlete Tracy Barnes is the true living example.
Barnes gave up her spot on the U.S. Olympic biathlon team so her twin sister, Lanny, could be on the team. Lanny was sick with a bad cold and was unable to participate in all of the selection races. Lanny was overwhelmed by this show of love.
“It shows if you care enough about someone, you’re willing to sacrifice everything,” Lanny Barnes said. “This is her dream, what she’s been talking about her entire life. It shows true Olympic spirit. The Olympics are not always about gold medals, she showed that with her decision.”
“It inspires me to push that much more, not only just for my country but for her as well.”
Tracy felt that Lanny just had a bit of bad luck and that she would have made the team had she not been sick.
“She had a stellar year,” Tracy Barnes said. “She just had a bit of bad luck getting sick. I would have loved the opportunity to represent my country but it means more to me to give Lanny that chance. I think she’ll do great things.”
This is just awesome. Tracy will be watching her sister from her home in Colorado, cheering on her best friend.
That is love.
