NBA cracking down on ‘floppers’
The NBA is working on implementing procedures to deal with “flopping” – falling down when little or no contact was made in an effort to trick referees into calling a foul.
We see this all the time in NBA games. It’s the one element of drama in NBA games that all players are guilty of playing in. NBA Commissioner David Stern is over it and is looking to penalize players who do it. He stated,
“If you continue to do this, you may you have to suffer some consequences. What those exactly should be and what the progression is, is to be decided, because … we just want to put a stake in the ground that says this is not something that we want to be part of our game.”
It’s likely that procedures will include a post game review and penalties, including fines will probably ensure.
I think this is a good thing. In order to protect the integrity of the game the NBA has to try to eliminate all unfair play. Hopefully, this rule will make players think twice before flopping.
Either that, or they’ll become better floppers.
