Chip Kelly, the Philadelphia Eagles new head coach isn’t just changing the on-field look of this team; he’s also changing the way his players eat.
According to ESPN, Kelly is transforming the Eagles cafeteria into a healthy, nutritious haven for its staff and players.
“Everything in the cafeteria has been re-made, and everyone in the organization from upper management to the staffers to the players are commenting on it,” Jeannine Edwards of ESPN said, via SI.com. “You go in the cafeteria and you see nothing but healthy food choices because Chip Kelly believes elite athletes need optimal nutrition.”
Kelly has taken it to the extreme, eliminating weekly staples such as “Taco Tuesdays” and “Fast Food Fridays,” to the chagrin of many.
“Gone are things like Taco Tuesdays and Fast Food Fridays, which the players are not too happy about,” Edwards continued. “Pizza, chicken wings, fried foods — and even red meat — are off the menu. [Kelly wants] nothing but organic hormone- and antibiotic-free lean meats.”
Kudos to Kelly for making the change. When kids see our professional athletes eating better, it will make them want to change some things in their diet. Hopefully with all of the healthier choices it will make the Eagles a faster, more responsive team. Oh…well maybe not.
