The New York Daily News is reporting that defensive player Osi Umenyiora’s days with the New York Giants are over. Sources report that Umenyiora has agreed to a two-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons. He’ll get $8.5 million with $5 million guaranteed. According to the NY Daily News:
Umenyiora owns a home in Atlanta, and on Friday, during a radio interview on 92.9 The Game, he said that winning in Atlanta was the only thing that could compare to his two Super Bowl titles in New York.
“New York fans definitely expect a lot out of you because of their history,” Umenyiora said, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “There was nothing better than to be able to win there. The only thing I can think of that would be better than being able to win in New York would be to be able to win here in Atlanta. We’ll see how that plays out. Hopefully, it works out in a positive direction.”
Umenyiora, a 10-year veteran expressed his discontent with contract negotiations with the Giants and said he would exercise his free agency in 2012. He will be a great addition for the Atlanta Falcons who are in desperate need for a strong pass-rusher. As Atlanta strives for another chance at the Super Bowl, strengthening their defense is a smart move.
