Well we knew it was coming, and it’s finally here: the indictment against Ray Rice. In case you forgot Rice, a running back with the Baltimore Ravens, literally drug his unconscious fiancee, Janay Palmer, out of an elevator after they had an argument/fight at the Revel Casino in Atlantic City. Rice’s attorney, Michael Diamondstein said Rice is innocent

“On behalf of Ray Rice, we vehemently deny he committed aggravated assault,” he said in a phone interview. “We think the matter of the charges involved will not be substantiated. Ray and Janay Palmer are together. They’re in counseling and happy. Neither wish to see the other prosecuted. For some reason the State of New Jersey prosecuted. As always, we only hope the public reserves judgement until the facts are brought to light.”

Well, yeah the state decided to prosecute–as they should in domestic violence situations. Too many women have died for the state not to take these cases seriously. It should be noted that both Rice and Palmer were both charged with simple-assault domestic violence. Rice originally had a charge of simple assault, but the case was turned over to the grand jury who elevated the charge to aggravated assault after the video was released.

The Ravens issued a statement: “This is part of the due process for Ray. We know there is more to Ray Rice than this one incident.”

Basically they are not making any decisions until after they get more information.

Hey…way to stand by your running back! In fact, Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti doesn’t think this incident defines Rice:

“If everybody was one-strike-and-you’re-out, then we’d all be in trouble,” Bisciotti told ESPN. “When somebody repeats mistakes, it’s showing a lack of character to me. You can’t take what Ray’s done — the kind of locker-room influence he’s been and the kind of community commitment that he’s shown — and say he’s a different person.”

So there you have it. Woman hits man. Man knocks woman out. Man drags woman out of elevator. Man gets indicted. Man and woman are “happy” together.

The end.

What do you think?
