Louisiana State Police have confirmed that a fiery crash in the early morning hours following the Super Bowl killed the aunt and uncle of San Francisco 49ers tight end Delanie Walker.
The crash which happened around 5:30am claimed the lives of Alice and Bryan Young Sr. of Victorville, Calif., Trooper Melissa Matey said. A 2012 Nissan Altima driven by 26-year-old Nechole T. Thomas of Houston slammed into the Young’s 2002 Mercedes at a high rate of speed from behind while it was stopped on the shoulder of I-10 in LaPlace, LA, just west of New Orleans.
According to SI.com, both cars burst into flames. The Youngs bodies were not found until the fires were put out. Thomas escaped with minor injuries and was jailed on charges of reckless driving, drunken driving and two counts of vehicular homicide – a death involving a drunken driver. Her bond is set at $300,000.
How tragic, and yet another example of why drinking and driving just do not mix. Now three lives have been forever altered and the families of the victims and the driver will never be the same.
Let’s keep the Walker and Young family in our prayers.
