“OPERATION PATIENCE” — those are the words that were on RGIII’s t-shirt and the NFL‘s fashion police didn’t like it. They fined him $10,000 for wearing the shirt.
The fine was assessed to Griffin for wearing unauthorized apparel during pregame warmups prior to Monday night’s preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers at FedEx Field, the person said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because the fine had not been made public. The person did not specify which article of clothing caused the violation.
This is the third time RGIII has gotten his hands spanked for wearing “unauthorized” material. One time he wore an Adidas shirt and another time he covered up the Nike “swoosh”, prompting warnings and penalties from the NFL.
And how does RGIII feel about this? He’s taking it all in stride. He even laughed about it while getting the team’s offensive player of the year award at the Redskins annual Welcome Home Luncheon and fundraiser:
“Those auctioneers did a good job,” Griffin told the crowd. “I would’ve given them 10 grand, but the NFL took it away from me this week.”
I’m glad he’s taking this all in stride because he has much more important things to be concerned with– like playing football. It will be all eyes on RGIII come his first day of official play. Not only will people be watching his level of play, but they’ll be watching how he reacts and recovers from hits.
A t-shirt fine, is just another distraction.
