Despite hopes that he’s had enough healing to play in Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns, famed Washington Redskins rookie quarterback RGIII will not be a part of Sunday’s game. The decision was made Saturday night that backup rookie Kirk Cousins will start in Sunday’s game.

It was not stated whether Griffin will be active or whether 3rd string quarterback Rex Grossman will serve as a backup to Cousins. Either way, Griffin will be there and in Twitter he noted his support for the team. He tweeted:

”The decision was not my own… But I will be there for my team!!! In every way I possibly can”.

This game is critical as the 7-6 Redskins are vying for playoff contention throwing some heat on the divison leaders the NY Giants. The Redskins need this win (and a Giants loss) to stay alive for the playoffs. While the coaches don’t want to further damage the strained ligament in Griffin’s right knee, they are putting the pressure on Cousins who, in his first two appearances, completed 7 of 11 passes for 137 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Cousins needs to step it up. He has to. His team is depending on him. Oh yeah…it’s going to be a good game.
