The “ex-es” of professional athletes often get an unfair bad rap. They’re called gold-diggers, whores and jump-offs who lucked up on a cash cow. Usually the judgments are baseless and sexist–but in the case of Siohvaughn Wade, there may be a little bit of truth regarding her mental instability.
Last Friday, she was sitting–literally SITTING on the streets in Chicago in protest against Dwyane Wade. She held a sign which said, “NBA Miami Heat star mother of his children on the streets,” claiming Dwyane has not lived up to his required child support payments.
The Chicago Sun Times reported the story saying:
“After a grueling week of court developments in which Funches-Wade sought to fire her attorney — her legal representation paid for by Wade, she has gone through 12 lawyers — and a week in which she was arrested by Circuit Court Judge Thomas Carr for appearing late in court, she’d had it…. Dwyane Wade is offering to pay only some of what he owes me if I sign an agreement never again to discuss what happened in our marriage or with our children. I refuse,” the ex-wife said. “I finally told Carr I just wanted to end the case and keep my freedom and my voice. I told him I didn’t want anything from Dwyane. The judge demanded the trial continue. I couldn’t believe it.”
Siohvaughn Wade’s protest has not been met with public sympathy. This seems to be yet another example of her alleged mental instability. During their very nasty and public divorce, she made many shocking claims against Dwyane Wade. Choosing to play out her personal resentment in the media was not a good idea. This latest “protest” only confirms for many that the judge got it right awarding Dwyane Wade full custody of their children.
Divorce is not good. It’s not fun or comfortable or pleasant. It is the dissolution of an institution and the breaking of a sacred covenant. It is one of the worst some go through in their private lives, and if you add to that millions of people’s opinions, thoughts, and judgments, it can be down-right excruciating. Celebrities, including athletes, usually find their situation play out in the public realm, as is the case for Dwyane Wade.
The thing is, we don’t know the full truth. When it comes to marriage, only those in it know the full scope. Siohvaughn Wade may be 100% correct in her accusations. Dwyane Wade may have a dark side we never get to see and may be the monster she’s claimed him to be all along. The problem is that she can’t “win” in this way. When you’re the only person screaming and yelling, at some point you start to look a little crazy. If she has truly been hurt in the manner she claims, taking a step back to let the truth come out may be the best strategy because, she does have children. They have to be the focus.
The rest of this dramatic behavior is only going to get her one response–and that’s the one Dwyane Wade gave on Friday:
“#REALLY #whatyoutalkingaboutwillis #aintnobodygottimeforthat.”
