NBA Commissioner Will Give Isaiah Austin Job After Graduation

There wasn’t a dry eye in the building during this year’s NBA Draft when NBA Commissioner,  Adam Silver announced that the league was drafting Isaiah Austin. As you remember less than two weeks before the draft, the Baylor athlete was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder that affects the heart, Marfan Syndrome, this diagnosis made him ineligible to be drafted, but he has a good consolation prize.

After a conversation with Adam Silver earlier this week, Austin learned that when he graduates from Baylor he will have a job waiting for him with the NBA. The only catch is that he MUST complete his degree.

“Right now he’s going to have me do a little stuff with NBA Cares, just off-and-on right now until I get a full job,” Austin told TMZ.

“Adam Silver really wants me to be a part of the organization, and I’m thankful for the opportunity that he’s giving me,” Austin said.

I have to say that the actions of NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has made me fan; first the speed actions with the Donald Sterling matter, now this. Keep up the good work!

Erin Andrews Gives Humble Response About Replacing Pam Oliver

If you watched the MLB All-Star Game you’ve had a chance to FOX’s new No. 1 NFL girl, Erin Andrews, but according Andrews she had no idea that anything was going on.

“I don’t think anyone really knew that announcement was coming out…so it was a shock to me when I got to Minnesota and I woke up from my red-eye, I had no idea any of that was happening,” she said.

Monday it was announced that Erin Andrews would replace 19-year sideline vet, Pam Oliver on NFL on Fox’s No. 1 team with Joe Buck and Troy Aikman. Oliver will be moved to the No. 2 team for her 20th year and then phased out to transition into a new role.

“I have huge shoes to fill here. I’m not ignoring that at all and in fact that’s going to challenge me and make me want to be better than I was before. She set the standard, she is a trailblazer.”

“She’s the first person to ask me if I’m OK and if I need anything,” she added later. “And that’s going to make my job 15 times more difficult just because I know, I’m going to have to try to live up to that and that’s not easy at all. I can’t thank her enough for being such a wonderful example for me.”

(VIDEO) Derek Jeter All-Star Tribute To Air During His Final All-Star Game

Everyone’ eyes will be on tonight’s MLB All-Star Game, not because of their love for baseball but to show their love and respect for retiring New York Yankee, Derek Jeter

At the end of this season, Derek Jeter will retire, leaving a game that he loves so much. But before he hangs up his bat, Jeter will play in his 14th MLB All-Star Game, which promises to be one for the history books.

During the game, you will see a fitting tribute to Jeter that will run in an almost two-minute commercial which is set to debut  just before Jeter’s first at-bat. In the spot, a number of notable individuals tip their hat to the Captain: Rudy Giuliani, Jay-Z, John Lackey, Joe Torre, Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettite, rapper Action Bronson, skater Eric Kosten, Spike Lee, Jeanie Buss and Phil Jackson, Maya Moore, Carmelo Anthony, Tiger Woods and Billy Crystal.

Check out the tribute…

The spot was produced by Jordan Brand (the brand owned by Micheal Jordan), to show respect and admiration to Jeter for the work that he has put in. Jeter was the first Jordan Brand-endorsed baseball athlete when he was signed in 1999.  Other than Michel Jordan, Jeter is the brand’s longest-tenured athlete.  With 12 signature cleats, Jeter has the most signature shoes of any Jordan Brand athlete other than Jordan.

If you should watch tonight’s All-Star game tonight for no other reason than to see Derek Jeter for the last time. I highly suggest it, and I promise it will be worth the time.

What LeBron’s Return To The Cavaliers Means For The City of Cleveland

While Cavalier fans are over the moon about LeBron James‘ return to the team four-years later, the city of Cleveland could be looking at a huge pay day with King James back in the area.

According to Cuyahoga County executives in a Bloomberg Report, LeBron’s return to the Cleveland Cavaliers will have a $500 million a year impact on the local economy, with a boost from additional ticket sales and other spending.

Based on calculations by the Cuyahoga County Fiscal Office, James’s return will increase the benefit from Cavs games alone to about $268 million. Average attendance increased from about 12,000 before James joined the team to about 20,500 during his final season, the county said. Although attendance has slipped, officials expect sold out games next season with James on the court.

There will be two things we can see happen almost immediately. The first thing will be adding over 500 new jobs supported by the Cavaliers. Second will be the value of the team increasing, which now sits at $515 million. With James back in the picture the value is expected to clear a number over the billion dollar mark.

Seems LeBron isn’t the only one making millions off his return home.

Pam Oliver Demoted, Erin Andrews In On FOX’s Top NFL Team

There are a lot of things that shock me, but Pam Oliver being out on FOX’s No. 1 NFL team is not one of them. After the last two seasons of scrutiny and then the hire of Erin Andrews from ESPN in 2012, many would say there can only be one ‘Queen Bee’ on the sidelines.  Starting this September, we will no longer see Oliver on the sideline reporting alongside, Joe Buck and Troy Aikman. Oliver who has held down the position for 19 years will be moved to the No. 2 team of Kevin Burkhardt and John Lynch to complete her 20th season, where then after she will be relieved of her sideline duties all together. Filling Oliver’s place will be FOX’s new darling, Erin Andrews According to Oliver, the FOX executives came to her home in Atlanta where they gave her the news. She then in-turn asked to complete her 20th season, and they agreed.

“I think it was predetermined coming in,” Oliver told “Not at that meeting, but two years ago it was determined that no matter what I did or did not do, a change would be made for this year.”

While many have blasted Erin Andrews (who knows why?) Oliver has always taken the classy, high road when taking about Andrews. However, Oliver did have this light to shed on the situation.

“I live in the real world and I know that television tends to get younger where women are concerned. Just turn on your TV. It’s everywhere,” she added when she spoke to “And I’m not saying these younger girls don’t deserve a chance. I know I’ve had my turn.”

However, this isn’t the end of the road for FOX and Oliver, they would be crazy to let her go altogether. Oliver has signed a new multi-year contract with Fox and is expected to be on the air for a long time.

“Clearly it’s an expanded role that meets the needs of all the big events that Fox and Fox Sports 1 covers as well as the NFL on Fox,” Fox Sports president Eric Shanks told   “I can’t think of a more respected person in the entire industry than Pam Oliver, and when you find out that Pam is going to be doing the interview, I don’t think you would say that anyone else would do the interview better. Her being a part of the FOX family now and in the future is really important to us.”

This has been writing on the wall for a long time. Fans saw it, colleagues saw it, even Oliver herself acknowledged it. When it comes to the best-of-the-best Pam Oliver is at the top of my list.

I don’t want to re-hash how hard it is to be a woman in sports or even a black women in sports, we don’t have enough time, but this season I want to really celebrate the good work that Oliver has done for so long. Many of us (man or woman) would love the have the type of career and access that Oliver has made look so easy for so long. While I did have critical things to say about Oliver’s appearance during the last two seasons, it came from a place of expectation. At a certain place in your life or career, you just expect certain things to be and look a certain way, it had nothing to do with the amazing job that she has done and continues to do on the field. So let’s put all of that behind us, and start anew to embrace who and what Pam Oliver stands for to all of us.

As for Andrews, there’s no need for me to be angry with her or bash FOX for the decision they made, this is her job. Nonetheless, Andrews is young, she still has a lot to learn. If she’s smart, she would enlist Oliver as a mentor and teacher to help her along the way. Andrews is sharp, she knows football and she’s going to give the network that ‘American Girl’ look. But before we hang Andrews out to dry, let’s see what she can really do. I’d like to see how she takes getting hit in the head with a football…just kidding.

Congratulations to Oliver on starting her 20th season on the sidelines of America’s favorite game, and good luck on the new adventure ahead.
