Vick Gets $20 million and 1-year with Eagles

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

Michael Vick has signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles, estimated around $20 million.

The Pro Bowl quarterback was designated as the team’s franchise player Feb. 15. He signed the franchise tender Wednesday.

Vick led the Eagles to a 10-6 record and the NFC East title after replacing an injured Kevin Kolb in Week 1. Despite missing three games with an injury, Vick had his best season. He set career highs in yards passing (3,018), touchdowns passing (21), touchdowns rushing (9), completion percentage (62.6) and passer rating (100.2).

Vick was voted The Associated Press Comeback Player of the Year after missing two seasons while serving a jail sentence and playing sparingly in 2009.

NASCAR Gets Simpler Scoring System

Thursday, January 27th, 2011

NASCAR is replacing the complicated scoring system it has used since 1975 with a more straightforward format.

None of the changes for the 2011 season announced by chairman Brian France at the NASCAR Hall of Fame on Wednesday came as much of a surprise. NASCAR officials had been briefing teams for almost two weeks on the changes in an effort to give competitors feedback on the direction being taken.

A race winner will receive 43 points under the new system, and the points will decrease down to 1 for the 43rd-place driver. There will be three bonus points for the winner, one bonus point for every driver who leads a lap, and one bonus point to the driver that leads the most laps. (more…)

No Cheerleaders in the Super Bowl???

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

A cheerleader-less Super Bowl is unheard of.

But it looks like that might just happen this year.

The Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers are two of just six teams in the NFL who don’t have professional cheering squads. Barring a last-minute squad organization by either franchise it looks like there won’t be any cheerleaders on the sidelines for cameramen to pan across before commercial breaks during Super Bowl XLV.

It’s a Super Bowl first, according to Yahoo Sports.
