VIDEO: Pilar Sanders Claims Innocence After Being Release From Jail

Thursday, April 26th, 2012

Minutes after Pilar Sanders was released from jail on Tuesday she stepped onto a prodium to give a press conference. The teary-eyed estranged wife of Hall of Famer, Deion Sanders proclaimed that she is innocent following an attack that landed her in jail and in the hospital.

“I understand that I have very little chance of beating a hall of fame, two sport man, that everyone seems to love and adore. I’m a full time mom. 100 percent for my children. And I just haven’t been given a fair shake since any of this began. And far too often, people are enamored by the glitz and glamor and yellow jacket and star on the side of a helmet. But I will never give up. I will never give up fighting for my children and their protection,” said PIlar during her little over a minute public statement.

Pilar was arrested late Monday night after an altercation which took place at the Prosper, Texas home she once shared with her husband Deion Sanders. Minutes after an alleged assault on Monday Deion Sanders took to Twitter to let the entire world know what happen and Pilar’s part in the entire thing. Deion and Pilar are in the middle of a bitter divorce.

Deion Sander’s Live Tweets About Being Assaulted By His Wife

Monday, April 23rd, 2012

In the sports world Twitter is used for everything from announcing retirement, to tweeting party pictures, to even expressing opinions about another team or teammates, but I don’t think that Twitter has ever been used the way it was used this evening!

NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders took to Twitter this evening to tweet about an attack on him by his estranged wife, Pilar Sanders, and a friend of hers.

Here’s the timeline…

Sanders and his wife are in the midst of a bitter divorce battle where she claims that he cheated on her, verbally abused her and brainwashed her. Pilar Sanders now has a $200 million lawsuit pending again Sanders.

As we reported earlier,  Deion Sanders is working on a reality show that will focus on his work coaching the football team at Prime Academy, the school Deion is opening later this year. Sanders’ show will also focus on him off the field raising his kids as a single father.

Are Athletes Being Too Soft When It Comes To the Media?

Friday, April 20th, 2012

If you have flipped passed ESPN’s First Take this past week, you may have caught a glimpse of the hot debates being discussed surrounding the relationship between the media and athletes. If not, here are a clips of the hot topics:

Despite how the rough turf was first crossed, athletes are doing their best to stand their ground and defend their integrity against harsh media critiques like Skip Bayless (@RealSkipBayless) and Stephen A. Smith (@StephenASmith). Jalen Rose (@JalenRose), a retired NBA player and former member of the “Fab Five” at the University of Michigan now is an analyses for ESPN. He sat in on one of the discussions, arguing that often time reporters are attacking the credibility of a person when name-calling is being done and he himself can take an innocent comment personally based on the tone of their voice.

So, is the integrity and credibility of the reporters and/or athletes being questioned? NEWS FLASH: that’s exactly what a discussion is, arguing opposing views on a particular platform. At a collegiate or professional level, when athletes commit to performing on such platforms they commit to being analyzed and picked apart by reporters. They choose to open their careers and lives to the public. This “whining” done by athletes when the Stephen A. Smiths of the world call them “scrubs” should just be ignored.

This position of vulnerability holds true with reporters as well. If you are a member of the journalism community, might it be publishing pieces or speaking openly on a debate show, you’re allowing yourself to be put in a vulnerable position where your opinion can be questioned. So, when Skip is being checked via twitter or across the table by an athlete, it’s all fair game. Reporters, and bloggers, are in a position to be critiqued just as they are critiquing athletes of any sport.

Are both parties being just a little too thin skinned?

My Take- Yes. What the athletes are asking for, analyst to pass along the box scores and leave the name-calling out of it, would take that much more life out of sports. If the debate shows ended and the controversy dissolved, entertainment in the sports world wouldn’t be any fun.

Fortunately for the fans, that just won’t happen. With the emergence of twitter, facebook, and high-speed internet, the rawest opinions are able to be uploaded as quickly as you can hit the “update” button. The term “freedom of speech” has a whole new meaning and it just so happens that Skip Bayless has exploited this viral stage. He, and all other professional analyst, part-time reporters, and back-room bloggers will continue to tag on their 5 cents on the lives of these celebrity athletes. The entertainment that is created on the back of these people is what is fueling the 21st century.

None-the-less, Skip was right: top performers in any arena should shame the personal attacks by out performing or out debating their opponent. Shrug off the rest and keep it moving.

Warren Sapp files for bankruptcy: “It was either this or go to jail.”

Thursday, April 19th, 2012

Well it seems another star athlete who was once swiming in money now finds himself in the shallow end of the money pool. Famed defensive lineman Warren Sapp, who once made about $60 million during his NFL career, has now filed for bankruptcy and says that he had no choice.

Sapp made his first comments on the situation to Tampa Bay Times columnist Gary Shelton and said he was motivated to file for bankruptcy with $6.7 million worth of debt because he didn’t want to go to jail.

“Do you think I wanted to declare bankruptcy?” Sapp told Shelton. “Do you think if there was any other way possible I would have done it? It was either this or go to jail. Those were my choices.”

Wow! That’s some choice. With current state of the economy, most of us are sympathetic to those who find themselves in situations where they feel bankruptcy is their only choice. However, when you gross about $60 million during your active career, compassion seems a little more hard to comeby. Most of us don’t make million-dollas decisions and it seems unfathomable that all that money could go away so quickly.

Sapp says that a bad construction deal, buidling homes in Florida, is what sent his financial situation out of control. I’m thinking whoever advised him that investing in the housing market in the midst of the worst housing crisis in U.S. history is out of control. Further, recent comments by Sapp regarding the NFL bounty scandal caused him to lose his job with the NFL network.

It’s not a good time for Sapp right now. It’s our hope that as he moves forward, he’ll make smarter decisions and surround himself with people who are more interested in his person that his pockets.

Besides, we have to remember that those who have alot of dollars, don’t necessarily have alot of sense.

~Angela Davis
