Atlanta Falcons To Be Featured on HBO’s ‘Hard Knocks’

After a less than stellar last season and the hype around a new stadium, Arthur Blank and the Atlanta Falcons are going prime time. The team’s training camp will be featured in the next installment of HBO’s Hard Knocks

“We are excited about the opportunity to give our fans a behind the scenes look at what it takes to prepare an NFL team for the rigors of a 16-game regular season and beyond,” said Falcons owner and chairman Arthur M. Blank. “This marks the first time that our franchise will be featured on ‘Hard Knocks’ and we look forward to showcasing our great players and coaches to football fans all across America.”

According to the press release, the training camp will include a number of intriguing story lines, including the return of Julio Jones from season-ending foot surgery, the beginning of Jake Matthews‘ NFL career as the new starting right tackle, and the switch to a 3-4 base defense with the additions of nose tackle Paul Soliai and defensive end Tyson Jackson up front.

“We are looking forward to connecting with our fans across the country as the program chronicles our 2014 training camp,” Smith said. “The series will give fans a behind the scenes look at the competition between players as we build our roster and prepare for the season. We are looking forward to the start of camp in late July.”

“Hard Knocks” with the Falcons will debut on August 5. No training camp schedule has been released as of yet, but the Falcons will be traveling to Houston to practice against the Texans on Aug. 13 and 14 in preparation for a preseason game at Reliant Stadium on Aug. 16. Richard Sherman Wants ‘Legion of Boom’ on Madden 15 Cover With Him

One thing that almost all players that have appeared on the cover of the E.A. Sports Madden video game have in common is that during the season they appeared, their performance was not so top notch. When the announcement was made last week that Seattle Seahawks CB, Richard Sherman was going to grace the cover, I’m sure a number of fans grumbled knowing the superstition of the ‘Madden curse’.

In an un-selfish gesture, Sherman says that he wants Seattle’s entire Legion of Boom secondary to join him on the cover.

“It’s a great honor for me and my teammates, the Legion of Boom,” Sherman said after Seahawks OTA practices Monday, the first day he spoke to local reporters since the “Madden” announcement by game publisher Electronic Arts. “I’ve been trying to get the Legion of Boom on the cover and E.A.’s been fighting me.”

“So if everybody wants to start a petition to get the Legion of Boom on the cover, here’s an open invitation. They won’t let me do it.”

Who knows if E.A. Sports will agree to this, probably not, but it was a huge gesture extended by Sherman to the men who help him continue be who he is.

Sherman who beat out Cam Newton for the spot, will be the second Seahawk on the cover and only the third defensive player.

“It was cool. It was really cool,” Sherman said. “It was a great experience. It’s always an honor being picked for ‘Madden.’ It’s a fun deal.”

Whether or not we will see the entire Legion of Boom on the cover of Madden 15, this I’m sure will only help Sherman next season continue an amazing run and break the curse.

No HBO ‘Hard Knocks’ For Cleveland Browns And Manziel

One of the best (in my opinion) sports reality shows on television is HBO’s Hard Knocks. If you’ve never seen the series, it really gives you a real behind the scenes look at what it takes a build a football team starting with training camp all the way to the last game of the pre-season. But before we can even get to that, a team needs to be selected.

While Johnny Manziel and the Cleveland Browns are on the lips of everyone these days, I hate to disappoint fans but we won’t be seeing Manziel and the Browns on the HBO reality series. Browns head coach, Mike Pettine, has decline the opportunity to showcase the team on HBO starting in August.

“It was for the same reason we didn’t feel super comfortable having a camera in the draft room,” Pettine said, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “Let’s get through the first time, let’s get through the first year.”

“There are positives and negatives to doing it,” Pettine said, according to the paper. “It’s not something I would say we’d never do, partly because the league can make us do it.”

Since the Browns have passed on the opportunity, what’s another team that would be a good showing for the series?

Colin Kaepernick is the NFL’s new 126 million-dollar man

If you’ve been struggling to get over the hump today, I bet $126 million would be the right push to finish your day. Well, if you’re Colin Kaepernick, today is a good day. According to the 49ers quarterback signed a six-year, $126 million deal that will include $61 million in guaranteed money.

“The only thing I can say is I’m going to work to make sure I’m worth every penny of this,” the quarterback said after signing.

The new deal will keep Kaepernick in San Francisco through the 2020 season.

San Francisco 49ers general manager Trent Baalke feels like Kapernick is worth every penny.

“Colin’s hard work and dedication have played an integral role in the recent success of the 49ers organization,” Baalke in a statement after the deal was done. “His work ethic, leadership and on-field production have positively influenced our team, and we look forward to his continued growth in all areas.”

This is a huge contract, and it will be interesting to see what other quarterback’s contracts look like in the coming weeks.
