NBA Commissioner Will Give Isaiah Austin Job After Graduation

There wasn’t a dry eye in the building during this year’s NBA Draft when NBA Commissioner,  Adam Silver announced that the league was drafting Isaiah Austin. As you remember less than two weeks before the draft, the Baylor athlete was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder that affects the heart, Marfan Syndrome, this diagnosis made him ineligible to be drafted, but he has a good consolation prize.

After a conversation with Adam Silver earlier this week, Austin learned that when he graduates from Baylor he will have a job waiting for him with the NBA. The only catch is that he MUST complete his degree.

“Right now he’s going to have me do a little stuff with NBA Cares, just off-and-on right now until I get a full job,” Austin told TMZ.

“Adam Silver really wants me to be a part of the organization, and I’m thankful for the opportunity that he’s giving me,” Austin said.

I have to say that the actions of NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has made me fan; first the speed actions with the Donald Sterling matter, now this. Keep up the good work!

Who’s Who In Sports and Entertainment Came To Play Ball In Supporting Richard Sherman’s Foundation

Who says that Seattle Seahawks man-of-the-hour, Richard Sherman can’t pull a crowd. On Sunday, Sherman brought in over 22,000 people to Safeco Field to watch and support his second annual charity softball game. In attendance were Sherman’s teammates quarterback Russell Wilson, defensive end Michael Bennett, wide receiver Doug Baldwin and safety Earl Thomas. Even music’s hottest new group, Macklemore stopped by to play a little ball. However the highlight of the night was to see Laker’s Kobe Bryant pick-up a bat after 20 years and hit a solo homer. “I respect these guys tremendously and it’s humbling, it’s not something you can put into words,” Sherman said before the game started. “You don’t wake up one day and be like I’m going to have Kobe Bryant, Nate Robinson, Lawyer Milloy playing in my softball game, and Macklemore. It’s something that happened and you’re numb to the feeling until like years later when you realize that was a pretty incredible event.”

“He’s a psycho like me,” Bryant said of Sherman. “I think it’s just mutual respect and I have a great amount of respect for people who work at their craft. When him and I met, we just talked and hit it off.”   “I’ve always enjoyed coming here. I’d much rather come here in the postseason than Oklahoma,” Bryant said.

richard+sherman+softball+game-21_jpg_BIM Richard Sherman’s Foundation is run by himself and his brother, Branton. The beneficiaries are Sherman’s Blanket Coverage Family Foundation and other local charities who supply under-privileged, school-age kids with clothes, backpacks, computers and athletic shoes “to even the field,” as Sherman put it. As a kid from Compton who made it to Stanford, he’s keenly aware of class distinctions and the negative vibe it creates.

Deion Sanders responds to possible closing of Prime Prep Academy; Calls former co-founder a ‘crook’ and ‘heartless’

This weekend marks the annual Red & Black weekend hosted by NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders and his Truth organization. This year, the weekend of events will be held in Dallas, TX and will allow children to participate in a football tournament and allow the adults and the community to attend his annual fundraising gala –which seems eerily timely considering what’s going on with Prime Prep Academy.

According to  Dallas-Fort Worth ABC and Gannett affiliate WFAA:

Texas state officials moved to revoke the charter for an educational organization called Uplift Fort Worth, which serves as the parent company for the Deion Sanders-founded and led Prime Prep Academy. Without a recertification of Uplift, Prime Prep will be forced to close after just two years on the Texas charter school scene.

Financial irregularities with the monies for the school’s lunch program, which is federally funded, is the reason for the move to close. Sanders responded to the news reports on Twitter calling out his former co-founder for allegedly stealing the money:

“My former Co-Founder DL Wallace was a Crook and Heartless and we are still suffering from his Devilish ways. TEA informed PrimePrep they would revoke the charter pending appeal for the Food Program that Wallace hustled the state out of $45,000. We will appeal immediately,” Sanders said in a series of tweets on Tuesday evening. “I feel bad for this nonsense of yesterday affecting today and the potential of tomorrow for our students and NEW administration. We will fight this like we have all the other battles that we’ve faced. 100% graduation rate 2 years straight and 15 scholarships awarded in only 2 years of existence. In no form or fashion has me or my administration done any wrong regarding feeding or educating our students. TRUTH. I will pay the 45,000 myself to right DL Wallace wrong to the state if they will accept it. Don’t punish our kids for this Fool. Truth”

Deion Sanders has never backed down from a challenge –be it on the field or off.  Whatever the truth is with the misappropriation of monies at Prime Prep Academy, I agree that the children should not suffer.

We can only hope the “truth” prevails.

Erin Andrews Gives Humble Response About Replacing Pam Oliver

If you watched the MLB All-Star Game you’ve had a chance to FOX’s new No. 1 NFL girl, Erin Andrews, but according Andrews she had no idea that anything was going on.

“I don’t think anyone really knew that announcement was coming out…so it was a shock to me when I got to Minnesota and I woke up from my red-eye, I had no idea any of that was happening,” she said.

Monday it was announced that Erin Andrews would replace 19-year sideline vet, Pam Oliver on NFL on Fox’s No. 1 team with Joe Buck and Troy Aikman. Oliver will be moved to the No. 2 team for her 20th year and then phased out to transition into a new role.

“I have huge shoes to fill here. I’m not ignoring that at all and in fact that’s going to challenge me and make me want to be better than I was before. She set the standard, she is a trailblazer.”

“She’s the first person to ask me if I’m OK and if I need anything,” she added later. “And that’s going to make my job 15 times more difficult just because I know, I’m going to have to try to live up to that and that’s not easy at all. I can’t thank her enough for being such a wonderful example for me.”

(VIDEO) Derek Jeter All-Star Tribute To Air During His Final All-Star Game

Everyone’ eyes will be on tonight’s MLB All-Star Game, not because of their love for baseball but to show their love and respect for retiring New York Yankee, Derek Jeter

At the end of this season, Derek Jeter will retire, leaving a game that he loves so much. But before he hangs up his bat, Jeter will play in his 14th MLB All-Star Game, which promises to be one for the history books.

During the game, you will see a fitting tribute to Jeter that will run in an almost two-minute commercial which is set to debut  just before Jeter’s first at-bat. In the spot, a number of notable individuals tip their hat to the Captain: Rudy Giuliani, Jay-Z, John Lackey, Joe Torre, Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettite, rapper Action Bronson, skater Eric Kosten, Spike Lee, Jeanie Buss and Phil Jackson, Maya Moore, Carmelo Anthony, Tiger Woods and Billy Crystal.

Check out the tribute…

The spot was produced by Jordan Brand (the brand owned by Micheal Jordan), to show respect and admiration to Jeter for the work that he has put in. Jeter was the first Jordan Brand-endorsed baseball athlete when he was signed in 1999.  Other than Michel Jordan, Jeter is the brand’s longest-tenured athlete.  With 12 signature cleats, Jeter has the most signature shoes of any Jordan Brand athlete other than Jordan.

If you should watch tonight’s All-Star game tonight for no other reason than to see Derek Jeter for the last time. I highly suggest it, and I promise it will be worth the time.
