Jersey Girl Sports fam Serena is giving us all kinds of mommy magic as she and her beautiful baby girl Alexis Olympia will grace the cover of Vogue.

Some of the pics are already out, and while we love Serena, baby Alexis is just too darn cute!

In the article Serena talks about her marriage, and thoughts of being a full-time mom–but she still wants to win more Grand Slams first.

from Vogue.com

To be honest, there’s something really attractive about the idea of moving to San Francisco and just being a mom,” she says. Reddit, the news aggregator of which Alexis is a cofounder, is based there, and they’ve just found a house in Silicon Valley. “But not yet. Maybe this goes without saying, but it needs to be said in a powerful way: I absolutely want more Grand Slams. I’m well aware of the record books, unfortunately. It’s not a secret that I have my sights on 25.” She means 25 Grand Slam victories, which would surpass the record of 24 held by the Australian tennis legend Margaret Court and make her the undisputed greatest of all time.

And actually, I think having a baby might help. When I’m too anxious I lose matches, and I feel like a lot of that anxiety disappeared when Olympia was born. Knowing I’ve got this beautiful baby to go home to makes me feel like I don’t have to play another match. I don’t need the money or the titles or the prestige. I want them, but I don’t need them. That’s a different feeling for me.”

Jersey Girl Sports fam history was made and Aggie pride reigned supreme as North Carolina A&T defeated Grambling State University  21-14 to capture the title and bragging right as the best in HBCU football.

It was no easy win but when it was all said and done, the Aggies showed themselves the better team. Their defense slowed down Grambling’s powerhouse quarterback Kincaid and forced them to pass the ball capitalizing on critical errors. The teams seemed evenly matched, but when it was all said and done, A&T was victorious.

Here are some of the best moments from their win.

Jersey Girl Sports fam, the first of half of the Celebration Bowl found the Grambling State University Tigers and North Carolina A&T Aggies almost scoreless. The defense dominated on both sides of the ball, so the game didn’t have offensive excitement on the field, but it was all fun in the stands!

If you’ve never been to an HBCU football game, I can tell you that what happens in the stands is as exciting as what happens on the field. Between the bands and the fans, it’s a good time!

Here are some of the best moments from the first half of the game:

The Aggies are looking to complete their undefeated season with a championship win, while the Grambling Tigers are hoping to repeat their championship.

Enjoy the game!

(VIDEO) Warren Moon sued for sexual harassment; Accuser alleges he required her to wear a thong

by Angela Davis |@jerseygirlsport |@ladyadavis

Jersey Girl Sports fam since the scandal surrounding Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein, women have come out in all areas in including politics, education, media and now sports. According to the Washington Post NFL Hall of Famer Warren Moon is being sued for sexual harassment.

Wendy Haskell, 32,alleges in a lawsuit that Moon required her to wear thong underwear and share his bed during business trips. According to the lawsuit, which was filed Monday in California, Moon said she had to comply to remain with the firm and mentioned that “his prior assistant accepted the same arrangement.” The lawsuit also says that Moon committed sexual battery by grabbing her crotch during a business trip to Seattle. He also allegedly pulled off her bathing suit after slipping a drug into her drink during a recent business trip to Mexico in October.

Haskell wanted her name to be public, and since this allegation, Moon, who is a regular commentator for Seattle Seahawks games on the radio, has requested a leave of absence. Unfortunately, this isn’t Moon’s first run-in with this issue. He was sued for sexual harassment in 1995 by a Vikings cheerleader. That case was settled out of court.

Moon doesn’t have a good track record in his relationships with women. However, since his missteps in the 90’s, things have been relatively quiet. These allegations will definitely  hurt his career both now and in the future.

In the meantime, while these allegations are horrific, we should all be careful not to assume anything. We must both believe the alleged victim and perpetrator. Both deserve fair treatment and a reserved judgement until facts are uncovered.

Sadly, I think more women who work in sports will start coming forward.

What do you think?

Celebration Bowl honors the legacy of black college football

by Angela Davis|@jerseygirlsport |@ladyadavis

When college football fans talk about college football, they usually speak of the big names with the big television reach. The reality is Black college football has a prestigious and celebrated legacy in college football worthy of respect. While it’s often placed separate from ‘mainstream’ college football, the truth is, were it not for this honored legacy, many of these ‘big schools’ would never be where they are.

On December 17th, the Celebration Bowl will kick-off the college bowl season and bring together the best of the best in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) and the Mideastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). Famed Grambling State University will try and retain their championship against North Carolina A&T University who is coming in undefeated this season. This match-up is especially interesting in that A&T’s head coach  Rod Broadway was a former coach at Grambling State University.

If you don’t know anything about black college football, there are three things that are definite: the competition will be fierce, the trash-talking will be constant and the bands will deliver like never before.

Grambling State University and North Carolina A&T will meet at the new Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta on December 17th at 12PM eastern.

I guarantee you it’s going to be a good time.
