Terrell Owens needs to ‘man up’: He can still be the man he desires to be

Thursday, May 10th, 2012

Terrell Owens’ appearance on the Dr. Phil show only underscores the public’s perception of him: that he’s a horribly misguided talent who plays the victim role and uses excuses in an attempt to sideline his personal accountability.

As I watched the show, one thing was evident– Terrell Owens still wants to blame the media and the public for his personal choices. After twenty minutes into the show,  I was still waiting for Terrell Owens to “man up” and be accountable for his behavior. Thirty minutes– I was still waiting, and THEN somewhere around the fourty five minute mark he made a small acknowledgement. Everytime he had to give an account for his behavior it was because of someone else. He tried to sit in the victim role by saying, “I’m used to people saying bad things about me,” or saying that he’s angry with the women. When called to the carpet, T.O. always had an excuse.

What is apparent is that Terrell Owens doesn’t have anyone in his corner who is giving him real advice. He needs some people in his life who will hold him accountable and not accept his irresponsible behavior and blame it on others. Terrell Owens is seeking mercy and approval from the same community he blames for his negative image.

But there is hope.

I think Terrell Owens’ does want to be a good person. I think he wants to break the cycle of poor, neglected parenting and be a positive role model in the lives of his children. I just think that he doesn’t know how. One of the most profound statements made was by Kimber who said that Owens acknowledged he doesn’t know how to love his children. Terrell Owens didn’t dispute her statement, and the fact that his father was not in his life makes me believe he is telling the truth.

Terrell Owens, for all his antics and public displays of foolishness is a sad soul in need of love. I think he’s looking for acceptance and a genuine relationship that nurtures him. I think his unresolved past issues and hurts will continue to damage his present and can ultimately destroy his future. It seems he’s looking for love in all the wrong places.

Terrell, you’ve tried multiple women, the NFL, money, fame, and television–none of which has fulfilled you in the way that you need.

Try Jesus.

Terrell Owens Plays the Blame Game in latest GQ Article

Thursday, January 19th, 2012

If you’ve been a fan of Terrell Owens, you’ve seen him in San Francisco, Philly, Dallas, Buffalo and finally Cincinnati. You would also know that he is second all time in receiving yards, and that his body is chiseled from head to toe. So what does he possibly have to cry about in the upcoming issue of GQ (on newsstands next month)? Well
he’s just not playing football anymore.

Owens who is now 38 years old, is playing in a game where he may not come out on top. It was funny to read that when people text Owens to ask him where he is these days, his response to them is, “I’m in hell.”  In the GQ article by Nancy Hass, Owens blames the media, blames agent Drew Rosenhaus for not protecting him, and he STILL blames a former teammate for his issues with former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb.

It’s surprising that after all these years and many teams later Owens is still caught up with the old storyline of the McNabb feud. I clearly don’t understand why Owens is still trying to prove his point. In the article he talks about how another player told him NOT to apologize to McNabb, but when GQ asked the then team captain Jeremiah Trotter of this, Trotter disagreed with Owens account and tells the magazine he was the one insisting Owens apologize. Nonetheless it’s time to move on.

In the article Owens is still arrogant in his ability to return to the NFL. Even after what could have been a career ending ACL surgery Owens still toots his own horn by believing he can make the same plays he was making after just coming into the league years ago. His workout regime is still as intense as ever, but the doors to football aren’t exactly closed. Owens received an offer to play for a Chicago arena league back in October and at the time passed it up.

Owens will be a player and part owner of the Indoor Football League’s Allen Wranglers, in Dallas. I wonder is this a ploy to get Jerry Jones to take another look at him and possibly bring him back to the Cowboys? Hmmmmm.

We may be on the fence about whether he can still play, but we do know the days of dropping $137,000 for two diamond stud earrings are over. The claim of being broke after making $80 million during his NFL career is a story that Owens is sticking tightly to.

Lately his money troubles have landed him in court because he claims he just can’t afford to pay his child support payments. Owens pays a total of $44,600 a month in child support for his four children, ages 5 to 12.

In response to his child support woes, he says “If there’s anything I’m sorry about, it’s getting involved with all that.” I honestly don’t know if he’s talking about the women that he calls “repeat offenders” in the article or if he’s referring to his kids.  I had to laugh out loud as I kept reading when Owens says that he is angry with the women because he believes they are not being fair.

“They know I’m not working; they know the deal,” he expresses to GQ. However, in the article it shares that Owens is living in a stunning 1,800-square foot Los Angeles apartment he paid $499,000 for in October 2010.

Throughout the article Owens does address the rumored suicide attempts and the depression, but I’m not going to give away the entire thing because I believe that Nancy Hass does a fabulous job trying to help us feel the pain that Owens is ultimately feeling.

The one surprising thing (well maybe not that surprising) is that Owens doesn’t see his role in the downward spiral of his life. He places a lot of blame on agents, friends, family, publicists, advisers, baby mamas, the media, teammates and even the NFL, but not once does Terrell Owens take responsibly as a grown man for the way that his life has turned out.

When looking at Owens’ stats you see a great wide receiver who could possibly help some team, but that’s not what keeps him off the field; It’s his antics, the theatrical element that he brings to his life and the lives of others around him. When looking at the issues with McNabb and the Eagles, or the child support, or even situations with his other teams the common denominator is Terrell Owens.

Every morning you wake up you have the opportunity to start anew, and Terrell Owens has had over 13,870 mornings to start anew, and it just hasn’t happened.

Judge Tells T.O. ‘Your NFL career is over’

Thursday, January 5th, 2012

When will athletes and celebrities learn that no one can escape the court system, no matter how many touchdowns you’ve made or how many years you’ve been in the league? If that wasn’t apparent to T.O. before, it is now.

Yesterday Terrell Ownes was in L.A. County Superior Court asking Judge Marc Marmaro to reduce his child support payments in 2 of his 4 ongoing paternity cases, because he’s broke with no job. T.O.’s attorney stepped up to even clarify even more that his client is a man without a team and therefore a man without a paycheck.

Now Judge Marmaro is no football anaylyst but gives a little advice by telling T.O. his prospects for a comeback are bleak.

Judge Marmaro said, “His NFL career seems to be over. I mean no disrespect.”

T.O. seemed to have agreed by nodding his head in acknowledgment to the Judge.

And get this
the judge apparently felt sorry for Terrell because he proceeded to tell him Kurt Warner’s story of going from an Arena League player to a Super Bowl champ, since there’s been so much buzz about Terrell being picked up by various arena teams.

As for reducing his child support the judge wants to think on that before making a decision.

Like Angela Davis, wrote in her blog, T.O. is someone that we’ve got to leave in 2011
this craziness cannot continue on.

T.O. works out, but scouts don’t show up

Tuesday, October 25th, 2011

T.O. confidently made a statement as did his agent that he would be back with an NFL team, but it seems that may not be so.

T.O. worked out today but no NFL scouts showed up.

Terrell Owens did about an hour-long workout Tuesday morning at Calabasas High School in hopes of getting seen by an NFL scout to get back into the NFL.

Unfortunately, no NFL scouts showed up to watch him.

Terrell Owens did various drills, and caught passes for about 25 minutes. He didn’t look as though as had slowed down, and that’s not bad for a man who is 37 years old—old by NFL standards.

Former 49er star Jerry Rice was on hand, as were various media members, but no scouts.

I hope this doesn’t send T.O. into another depressive state. While no teams were talking about his recent pill “incident”, it seems they may be thinking about it. But you never know with the NFL. Negotiations could be going on in the background, which is exactly what T.O. needs.

The last thing he needs is another ambulance ride.

What do you think?

Polamalu Gets Fined $10k for Using Cellphone During Game

Monday, October 24th, 2011

It’s official that the NFL has gone fine-happy. Yeah the antics of T.O., Ochocinco and even Steve Smith may have warranted fines but the recent fine that was handed down to Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu is just foolish.

During the week 6 game again the Steelers and the Jackson Jaguars, Polamalu left the game with what at the time was thought to be a concussion. While on the sidelines Polamalu borrowed a cell phone from one of the team doctors to call his wife, Theodora, to let her know that he was okay. A couple of days later Polamalu received a $10,000 fine for using a cell phone on the sideline during a game.

Really NFL???? When people called the NFL the ‘No Fun League’ I always thought that was a bit much, because some of the sideline and end zone antics had gotten a bit out of hand, but too fine a man for letting his wife know that he was okay from concussion-like symptoms is CRAZY!
