The much anticipated aqua-battle between friends, teammates and sometimes opponents swimmers Ryan Lochte and Michael Phelps took center stage at the opening games of the Olympics. When it was all said and done, Lochtecame out victorious. In the Men’s 400M I.M. Lochte finished with a time of four minutes, 05.18 seconds, almost one and a half seconds off of Phelps’ world record. It didn’t matter, though. He got the gold. (and showed off his trademark teeth-bling-age)

And what about Michael Phelps? Well, in what was a major diasppointment to all watching, Phelps finished 4th–failing to medal.

Lochte, who was once in Phelps’ shadow, has now taken center stage. He is ranked #1 in the world, and this momentum will sure to keep him fired up for the rest of his races.

Either way I’m happy. Team USA gets the gold. U-S-A!! U-S-A!!
