Jersey Girl Sports fam football is an all-encompassing team sport. For the men who play together continuously, the camaraderie can be considered a brotherhood--even for former players. Such is the case for the North Carolina Central University Eagles. They are playing this weekend in Atlanta for the Celebration Bowl, and plan to dedicate the game to former player Ty Brown.
Brown passed away December 15th at the tender age of 24. It was a painful loss for the Eagles family, and during this Celebration Bowl weekend where Brown would have surely attended to support the team, they are making sure to take his spirit with them.
For Head Coach Jerry Mack, Brown was, "the ultimate teammate".
from MEACSports.comBrown joined the NCCU family in the fall of 2010 out of Newton-Conover High School and went on to play four seasons (2011-14) as a standout defensive performer. During that time he played in 43 games, including 36 as a starter at linebacker of defensive end. He amassed 183 career tackles, collected 32.0 tackles for a loss with 13.5 sacks, and tallied 10 pass break-ups and five forced fumbles. As a senior in 2014, he earned All-MEAC Second Team honors after tying for sixth in the conference with 15.0 tackles for a loss and 7.5 sacks, both team-highs. He finished his college career with a dominating performance against nationally-ranked rival North Carolina A&T on Nov. 22, 2014, collecting six solo tackles, including four stops behind the line of scrimmage with three sacks and a forced fumble to help the Eagles win their first conference championship as a Division I program. Brown’s excellence in that contest earned him the BOXTOROW National Player of the Week award.
A few days before his death Brown posted on his Facebook page sharing his excitement about passing the state final for the law enforcement academy.
Ty Brown on Facebook (Dec. 12, 2016 – 11:55 a.m.)Words can't explain this feeling. All praise goes to the man up above. I got the call this morning that I passed my state final for the basic law enforcement academy. It was a long 4 months but I'm glad that I got to meet and now graduate with the best 16 people to come out of Sanford’s CCCC BLET Academy! … GRADUATION IS DECEMBER 20!! … Going to be the best officer I can be.”
Our prayers are with Ty Brown's family and the entire Eagles family.
